I Decided To Tell You Gravier
Joel Dobbins and brother Sam Dobbins joined forces at 16 and 14 respectively writing and recording their own music at home in their bedrooms. Joel had already started writing and recording songs, but their first song written together was "A Place Where He Can Go". Like the majority of co-written Gravier songs, Joel would compose the music and Samuel would write the lyrics. A number of innovative tricks were used to overcome the lack of equipment they had. Firstly, since neither of them owned a bass guitar, Joel played the low E string of his guitar with the bass setting on his amp turned up to full and playing with his finger. Lacking in mic pre-amps, they used guitar amps to amplify the sound to the correct volumes instead; and since they did not have an audio interface, they used the line-in input on a Windows XP desktop's inbuilt soundcard to record sound, which Joel had purchased saved from many years of combined Christmases and birthdays together. Additionally, instead of a mic stand, they often suspended the microphone from the frame of the bunk bed in order to record acoustic guitar, vocals, etc. This is an hour's compilation of the brothers' best material.
